<p>I am constantly searching for tips and tricks for myself and to add  to this blog and when I was speaking to my trainer he gave me the  following tips which  I wanted to share. The first one of these I do  anyway fortuitously.</p>

<p>I have to say that when I have wanted to shed a few quick pounds of belly fat and trim some waist flab and couldn’t be bothered with exercising I have usually managed to achieve my <strong>weight loss</strong> goals by largely cutting carbs from my diet. Out with the Bread, Pasta, Potatoes and Rice and in with green salads and small amounts of proteins.</p>

<p>Imagine then how I felt when I read of a recent study conducted by the University of California, Davis and the National Center for Food Safety and Technology, Illinois Institute of Technology which claimed to prove that you can have the humble spud in your diet and still achieve weight loss and shed <strong>waist flab</strong>.</p>
<p>As someone who has a weak spot for potatoes, particularly new seasons ones with butter, this was a theory I simply had to look into! A member of the study team was quoted as saying;</p>
<p>“The results of this study confirm what health professionals and nutrition experts have said for years; when it comes to weight loss, it is not about eliminating a certain food or food groups, rather, it is reducing calories that count,” said lead researcher Dr Britt Burton-Freeman.</p>
<p>“There is no evidence that potatoes, when prepared in a healthful manner, contribute to weight gain. In fact, we are seeing that they can be part of a weight loss program,” he added.</p>
<p>The study involved monitoring 86 men and women over a 12 week period. During that time the subjects were broken into three groups. They were all assigned reduced calorie diets with potatoes added. Results apparently showed that all three groups lost weight.</p>
<p>As someone who just adores potatoes and finds them hard to give up this came as good news to me and I decided to look into the nutritional value of the spud. I discovered that a medium size (about 5 oz) potato with the skin on contains about 110 calories but contains more potassium than a banana (who would have guessed) and to my enormous surprise, provides nearly half our daily requirement for vitamin C and contains no fat, cholesterol or sodium.</p>
<p>“For the last few years the humble spud has been vilified in respect to its weight management properties. Now we realize that it should be glorified for its role in healthy weight loss,” said Kathleen Triou, vice president of domestic marketing for the United States Potato Board (USPB).</p>

I think that in the interests of having any hope of achieving weight loss the butter has to be a sacrificial lamb which is a shame. <p>We have recently seen posts about wonder weight loss pills Meridia and Reductil being pulled from the market by the FDA as being unsafe. Really folks it isn’t surprising is it? There simply is no ‘magic bullet’ in case you wondered. Time after time we hear that these new medical solutions cause increased risk of heart attack, stroke and high blood pressure.</p>

Any change has to start with us people. That’s  right, you and me, the parents of this world.</p>
<p>It is time once and for all to realise that there really is no magic solution to this. To effectively lose weight requires a lifestyle intervention. It takes real courage to face up to the fact that no pill, injection or patch is going to do it for you. It is a bit like giving up smoking or any other vice harmful to you. It takes a mindset change from you!</p>
<p>If not for your own sakes, then for the sake of our youth who are the future of our country it is time to get back to basics. Time to stop pushing fast preservative laden, calorie rich junk down the mouths of our kids for convenience sake because we do not have time. The message is simple folks, make time.</p>
<p>Make time to buy real food. All it takes is to eat fresh green leafy vegetables that are actually nice when you get back to basics. That with a nice portion of meat for proteins and daily servings of fresh fruits, and encourage your kids to drink good old fashioned tap juice if you have good water quality in your area and if you don’t, buy drinking water instead of sugar laden soda pop.</p>
<p>The other simple lifestyle choice is exercise. Get your overweight lazy kid away from the tv and the playstation or xbox and into some physical exercise. Simply being out in the sub doing something (anything) physical will be good for them and if they learn the right habits now they can pass this onto their children in turn. On top of that, sport (any sport) teaches kids good habits about being part of something bigger than themselves and having to work as a cohesive unit with others.</p>
<p>For the older ones among you reading this, all it takes to shed that unsightly waist flab is a half hour to an hour of exercise per day at a decent pace to get your heart rate up, coupled with a better diet and fresh home cooked food and you will start losing weight before you know it and God forbid, in time you might even get to <a href="http://www.tone-stomachs.com/" target="_blank">tone stomachs</a>!</p>
